Cafe Manteigaria

Since its founding in 2013, Manteigaria has rapidly become one of Lisbon's most beloved destinations for the city's quintessential pastry—the pastel de nata. With multiple locations across the capital (including Chiado, Time Out Market, and a new outpost in Príncipe Real opened in 2025), it has earned a reputation among locals and tourists alike for producing some of the very best egg tarts in Portugal.

Manteigaria calls itself a "factory" (fábrica) for good reason. The brand's signature concept is transparency: customers can watch the entire artisanal process unfold before their eyes. Behind large glass windows, skilled pasteleiros roll, cut, and shape the delicate laminated dough by hand—a technique that requires months of training to master. Fresh batches emerge from the ovens continuously throughout the day, each new arrival announced by the now-iconic ring of a bell.
