Cafe Confeitaria Nacional
Since 1829, Confeitaria Nacional has been a sweet treasure in the heart of Lisbon. Located in the historic praxis of figueira, it is one of the oldest pastry shops in the city, with its history intertwined with the capital itself.
Step inside to enter a world of timeless tradition. In 1873, she became a supplier to the Portuguese royal house—a distinction she proudly holds today as an official supplier to the presidency of the Republic.
The Confeitaria Nacional keeps the oldest pastry recipes in Portugal. Its Pastel de Nata follows the original formula of 19th century founder Balthazar Castanheiro, making it one of the most revered in Lisbon. Tasting is a ritual: admire the Golden top, feel the crispy crust, and then bite into the velvety cream.
In 1875, he introduced another national icon—Bolo Rei (King Cake). The original recipe remains unchanged, a secret known only to the owner and the pastry chef. Equally appreciated is the rice cake, a local favorite.
Whether on the flagship of Baixa or Belo Horizonte, a visit offers almost two centuries of Portuguese culinary heritage.
