Bar Procópio
Hidden on a quiet street near the Amoreiras garden, Procópio is one of Lisbon's most enchanting and secretive bars—a place where time seems to stand still. Opened in 1972 by Luís and Alice Pinto Coelho, inspired by the legendary Parisian café Procope, it remains family-owned and now run by the third generation.
From the outside, Procópio looks like any other residential house. To enter, you must ring the doorbell or knock—and wait to be invited inside . This ritual sets the tone for an evening that feels exclusive, intimate, and delightfully old-fashioned.
Step through the red door and you're transported to a 1920s Parisian bistro. The space is small, low-lit, and richly decorated with original Art Nouveau pieces—red velvet seating, dark wood paneling, antique mirrors, vintage paintings, and an old piano in the corner. It's the kind of room where everyone speaks in hushed tones and the lighting is designed for romance and mystery. The bar is a sibling to other Lisbon gems: Pavilhão Chinês, Paródia, and Foxtrot.
