Bar The Monarch

On Rua da Boavista in Cais do Sodré, The Monarch has established itself as one of Lisbon's most exciting cocktail destinations since opening in May 2023. Behind the helm is José Maria "Zé" Robertson, a World Class Portugal 2015 winner with over a decade at Cinco Lounge, alongside Daniel Zamith (formerly of Bistro 100 Maneiras) and Yasmin Ramos. Together, they've created what they call a "democratic monarchy"—a place where royal treatment meets unpretentious warmth.

Step inside and you're transported to a realm where Portuguese royalty meets contemporary cool. Stone-clad walls, chequered floors, plush velvet sofas in deep blue, and marble tables set an elegant stage. Portraits of D. João II, D. Carlos, and D. Maria gaze down approvingly. Even the bathroom is Insta-worthy, with a neon crown and a vintage safe repurposed as a towel rack. Yet despite the regal aesthetic, the atmosphere remains relaxed, intimate, and genuinely welcoming—a place where conversation flows as freely as the drinks.
