Chef André Lança Cordeiro presides over Essencial, where his contemporary cuisine celebrates pure ingredient flavours through a rigorously seasonal offering that evolves with nature's rhythm. His menus frequently bear French influences, a testament to his formative years in Paris, where he refined his craft in Michelin-starred establishments including Relais Louis XIII, Au Comte du Gascogne, and Restaurant Frédéric Simonin.

Since opening its doors five years ago, Essencial has established itself as a mainstay among Portugal's finest tables. The restaurant consistently ranks in the top 10 of the Mesa Marcada awards. It has held a Michelin recommendation since 2023, and in 2025, Essencial was distinguished with one Repsol Sun—further recognition of Chef Cordeiro's dedication to precision, seasonality, and understated elegance.

I chose Gambrinus for its lovely, charming counter—my favorite spot.

Bettina & Corallo — the best coffee and chocolate in town.

As Bifanas do Afonso — the best bifana spot in Lisbon.

Bogotá serves amazing croquetes and bifanas.

For the best tacos in town, go to Duro de Matar.

Duiche: good quality sandwiches.

YoiZaru — nice izakaya-style restaurant.

I recommend Lupita because they have the best pizzas.
