Diogo Formiga

ENCANTO

Diogo Formiga is the Head Chef of ENCANTO, the high-end vegetarian restaurant from the José Avillez Group awarded one Michelin Star.

Born in São Pedro do Sul in 1983, he holds a degree in Biology and a Master's in Marine Biology from the University of Aveiro. His passion for cooking, inspired by his grandmother's restaurant, led him to complete a degree in Kitchen Management at the Porto School of Hospitality and Tourism in 2014.

After working as Head Chef at several northern Portugal restaurants and as a gastronomic consultant at Gastrolab, he joined the José Avillez Group in December 2021. In May 2022, he was appointed Head Chef of ENCANTO, which earned a Michelin Star in its opening year. In 2025, the restaurant received a Michelin Green Star, and Diogo was honoured by The Best Awards with one Knife, an international distinction recognising the world's top chefs.

At Prado, order anything on the menu—but a classic is the cockles with chard. Amazing.
I recommend you try Sem Côdea—it's a new spot from my good friend António Lobo Xavier. Great sandwiches and cocktails.
Go to Black Sheep, grab a glass of whatever bottle they have, and take it outside to the park for a drink with friends. Can't go wrong.
